Q: Is this event sponsored by Minnesota Fringe Festival?

A: No. This contest is run independently by VISI, but with the permission of Minnesota Fringe Festival.

Q: What are the judges looking for when they judge the Fringey video trailers?

A: Film/video quality or fancy lighting is not a high priority in the Fringey contest. Performers may use simple handycams or camcorders. Rather, the judges are looking for entertaining and compelling short video trailers that will make attending the show irresistible for an audience.

Q. What's the deadline for entering the Fringeys?

A. Fringe companies can begin uploading their Web trailers to YouTube anytime and can officially enter the contest as of June 1st. All video submissions are due by July 20th.

Q. Do ASCAP and BMI licenses cover music used in videos?

A. No, ASCAP and BMI licenses do not cover music used in these videos, so be careful of what music you use - either don't use copyrighted material or get the rights.

Q. What's the time frame for voting on the Fringey videos?

A. Voting by the Fringey judges and the public begins on July 1 and closes on July 28th, with semi-finalists announced on July 28th.

Q: How much does it cost to enter the Fringey Web Trailer Awards?

A.Nothing at all, outside of the cost of shooting your own video.

Q. Who is eligible to submit a Fringey video?

A. Any company participating in the July 30-August 9, 2009 Minnesota Fringe Festival in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Q. Who is eligible to vote on a Fringey video preview?

A. Anyone. To ensure that voting is honest and the integrity of the voting process is safeguarded, VISI will keep track of voting in a database, verifying the email address each time someone votes. Everyone is allowed a total of three votes.

Q. How can I get more information on the Minnesota Fringe Festival itself?

A. Visit www.fringefestival.org or call 612-872-1212.

Q. How do I share a favorite Web trailer with a friend?

A. Feel free to post Fringey videos on your blog, your Facebook or MySpace pages, as long as you mention that the video is from the Fringey Web trailer contest.

Q. Can I submit a video that's longer than 60-seconds?

A. No. The Fringey contest only consider videos that are 60 seconds or shorter.

Q. If I'm with a Fringe Festival company that's entering a video in the Fringey Awards. Can I also vote in the Fringey Awards?

A. Yes, anyone can vote up to three times - including participating Minnesota Fringe artists. VISI will keep track of the voting in a database and will verify each voter's email address each time they vote. Voting will open on July 1, 2009.

Q. What if I want to withdraw my Fringey video trailer?

A. Not a problem. Just contact the Fringey Awards.

Q. How can I be sure our Fringey video was received?

A. We will send a confirmation email to every Minnesota Fringe performer who uploads a Fringey video.
